Crown Lengthening is a surgical procedure involving recontouring or reshaping gums around a tooth or teeth.

There are several reasons why Crown Lengthening might be suggested to you. Some of these include
- If you have a deep cavity that is difficult to access
- If you have very limited vertical tooth structure making restoring it difficult
- If you have gum disease
Procedure
The Crown Lengthening begins with a thorough consultation on why it is needed in the first instance. This will include
- A thorough clinical examination of your gums
- Intra-oral scans
- Impressions of your teeth
- Intra-oral clinical photographs
The procedure is done under local anaesthesia so it is completely pain free and you will not feel a thing. The affected gums are reshaped or recontoured using a scalpel and resorbable sutures are placed to hold them in their new positions. The entire procedure takes anywhere between 20 to 60 minutes depending on the number of sites we are treating. After the procedure, there will be slight tenderness from the surgical sites, but this will subside within a day or 2.

If you are a Singaporean or a permanent resident or you have an immediate family member who is, then you may use Medisave to cover a portion of cost of Crown Lengthening.
