Implant-Supported Hybrid Dentures by Ashford Dental

An implant supported denture is a fairly new development in full mouth rehabilitation. The implant supported denture involves placing either 4 or 6 implants in your jaw then placing a full set of teeth either fixed or supported by the implants. This means you have the choice of having the teeth fixed on the implants or being removable. This has become extremely popular in recent times because it is suitable for such a wide demographic.

What Are Implant-supported Hybrid Dentures?

Implant-supported hybrid dentures are fixed full-arch prostheses that are securely anchored to dental implants placed in the jawbone. Unlike removable dentures, hybrid dentures cannot be taken out by the patient and are designed to function much like natural teeth.

According to dental literature, hybrid dentures are a predictable and reliable rehabilitation option for completely or partially edentulous patients, especially when traditional dentures fail to provide adequate retention, comfort or stability.

How Do Implant-supported Hybrid Dentures Work?

Hybrid dentures are typically supported by four to six dental implants placed strategically within the jawbone. After implant placement, the bone heals and integrates with the implants through a biological process known as osseointegration.

Once integration is complete, a custom-fabricated hybrid prosthesis made from durable, high-strength materials is securely attached to the implants.

Clinical studies indicate that implant-supported hybrid dentures:

  • Distribute chewing forces evenly
  • Reduce pressure on the gums
  • Help slow down jawbone resorption
  • Improve long-term prosthesis stability

You may be suitable for implant-supported hybrid dentures if you:

  • Have lost most or all teeth in one or both arches
  • Struggle with loose or uncomfortable conventional dentures
  • Have adequate bone volume or are suitable for bone grafting
  • Are looking for a fixed, long-term tooth replacement solution
  • Fixed and stable – no slipping or movement
  • Improved chewing efficiency and speech clarity
  • Enhanced facial support and natural aesthetics
  • Reduced jawbone loss due to implant stimulation
  • Long-term durability supported by clinical evidence
  • Increased comfort, confidence and quality of life

Frequently Asked Questions About Implant-Supported Hybrid Dentures Treatment in Singapore

Having done this over the course of many years, our patients do not report much discomfort or pain after the procedure. The usual response is that it is a little tender or “raw” on the day of surgery but by the day after our patients are fine, may resume activities and do not need pain relief any more

The All on 4 protocol was specifically designed for patients who have very little or thin bone in either jaw. Such levels of bone which prevents the ideal placement for 4 or 6 implants.Hence, the All on 4 protocol relies on angulating the implants to engage as much bone as possible while avoiding:

  1. Interfering with the maxillary sinus (in the upper jaw) or
  2. Interfering with the mandibular nerve (in the lower jaw)

After a consultation with one of our experienced surgeons, we will be able to advise you on the bone levels you have and whether or not anatomical structures like the maxillary sinus or the mandibular nerve will prevent ideal placement of 4 to 6 implants. If this is the case with you, then the All on 4 protocol of angulating the implants will be a better solution. However, if you do have sufficient bone and anatomical structures do not present a challenge, then Implant supported hybrid dentures will be an optimal solution for you.

Granted most of our patients prefer a fixed set of teeth. However, a removable one is an option. Some patients like the idea of being able to remove their own set of teeth for cleaning etc. Even the removable set in anchored or “clicked” into the 4 or 6 implants in your jaw, so it does not move at all. It is not like a conventional denture which moves a lot. An implant supported fixed denture cannot be removed by you, it is fixed in your mouth. An implant supported removal denture “clicks” unto the implants which makes it very comfortable for chewing, speaking and function. It also allows you to remove the set of teeth to clean underneath if you wish.

Over the years, Ashford dentists have undergone training and have substantial experience in Implant supported hybrid dentures.  Ashford dentists are all trained to perform dental implants

  • Quickly
  •  Smoothly
  • Comfortably
  • Safely

Even our nurses have undergone specialized training to nurse for and assist for surgical procedures. Ashford was one of the first dental facilities to offer this procedure to patients. Since our inception, it has become one of our most popular procedures because it is an affordable method of replacing full sets of teeth in your upper/lower jaw or both.Being one of the first facilities to offer this, we have a profound understanding of how it works and what is best suited for you. We have done hundreds of implant-supported dentures for very, very happy patients. Ashford has specific equipment which allows us to image the thickness and length of bone which further allows us to select the optimal implants for you. It also allows us to place our implants with surgical precision. Our facilities in Upper Thomson Rd, Upper Serangoon Rd and Bedok Rd are registered day surgery centers which means we can perform the implant procedure under intra venous sedation if you wish.

A hybrid denture is a dental implant created to enhance the stability and durability of your dentures. Similar to dentures that can be taken out, hybrids rest on the surface of the teeth and gums. Nevertheless, they are fastened with screws onto the dental implant and cannot be detached without the assistance of an implant dentist.

An oral appliance supported by implants replaces multiple teeth simultaneously. It bears a resemblance to a conventional denture. However, instead of sitting on your gums, a denture supported by implants connects directly to your jawbone through dental implants.

Hybrid dentures are perfect for individuals looking for a long-lasting, extremely secure option that delivers the top aesthetic and functional outcomes. Overdentures provide an excellent choice for individuals who opt for a removable option that provides better stability and comfort compared to conventional dentures.

With appropriate maintenance, overdentures supported by hybrid dental implants have the potential to be long-lasting, unlike conventional removable dentures that need to be replaced every five to seven years.

Zirconia implants are commonly chosen for implant-supported dentures due to their stability, strength, and minimal chance of negative reactions.

It is important to clean your implant dentures regularly by rinsing underneath and brushing the attached plate and artificial teeth with a recommended polish and denture brush, even if you can sleep with them. Regularly cleaning your prosthetic can help prevent gum disease and implant failure.

Implant-supported dentures offer a superior quality of life in comparison to traditional dentures. They are the top choice for completely restoring the function and look of real teeth. Yet, there are several factors that could lead someone to opt for the conventional choice instead.

The implant-denture is supported by and rests on the gum, requiring only 4-5 implants instead of 7-10 like an implant bridge.

Hybrid dentures leave the roof of the mouth exposed, allowing the roof of the mouth and gums to feel natural and unaffected. Gum irritation is reduced by not relying on the gums to secure the denture. Furthermore, there will be no need to be concerned about dentures moving around and there will also be an improvement in bite force.

You can still clean them without having to purchase a sonic cleaner or Efferdent. Hybrid fixed dentures should be cleaned with a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste, just like natural teeth.

China, Dentures made from porcelain are more durable due to porcelain’s superior strength compared to acrylic.
