Dental Veneers

Veneers can be part of an overall new smile makeover process.

Veneers are largely a cosmetic procedure designed to enhance your smile. As such, they are usually done on your front teeth.

The veneer is only about as thick as a contact lens and is cemented unto the front surface of your existing tooth using a strong luting (cementing) agent. Sometimes a small amount of tooth structure is removed from the front surface to facilitate good bonding and to ensure good final aesthetics.

About Venners

Veneers can be made of several materials. Our Doctors will always advise you on what material is best suited for your specific situation.

Veneers are used to:

  • Correct discolored teeth
  • Change the shape of your front teeth
  • Change the size of your front teeth
  • Correct rotated or mal-aligned front teeth

Being a truly cosmetic procedure, we will always do a trial veneer phase before cementing your permanent veneers. That is, you will be able to see your smile with your new veneers using a special trial cement first. You can see it, feel it and make sure you are thoroughly happy with it before you proceed to the permanent veneers.

What is the process of placing a porcelain Veneer

The first step is a thorough analysis of your smile. This will enable us to decide how many teeth ought to be veneered and what material we ought to use to veneer.

Once decided upon, we proceed with preparing the teeth for the veneer. Now in some cases no tooth structure needs to be removed and an impression or mould can be taken and sent to one of our laboratories for fabrication of your veneers.

If tooth preparation is needed for the best result, we will anaesthetize the relevant teeth and carefully remove about 0.5mm-0.8mm of tooth structure only from the front surface. An impression can then be taken and sent to our laboratory.

In this event, we will fit your teeth with temporary veneers when you leave. The temporary veneers are cemented with a temporary cement. They are strong and look natural, but they are also relatively easy for us to remove when your real porcelain veneers are ready to be cemented.

Trial smile?

In almost all of our porcelain veneer cases, we encourage our patients to go through a day or 2 with trial veneers. This is when your veneers are ready but we cement them only with a trial cement.

This is strong enough to last several days. But not permanently. It allows you to leave the clinic, talk to friends and family and even eat food with your veneers. You are able to see what it looks like and what it feels like without being rushed at all.

Upon returning, if there are any changes or alterations you require, we will gladly make them. If not, we can proceed to using permanent cement to attach your new veneers.

Is it painful?

Absolutely not. During the procedure, you will be given local anesthetic so the entire area to be veneered is completely numb.

The process of preparing teeth to receive Porcelain Veneers is very atraumatic and unobtrusive. You will not feel pain, discomfort or even sensitivity afterwards.

How long will my veneers last?

Provided the underlying tooth remains healthy, the veneers are checked by our doctors at your regular checkups and your oral hygiene remains sound, there is no reason why porcelain veneers will fail.

They have been used routinely for many years to achieve a great smile for many patients worldwide. They have been shown to clinically outlast normal tooth colored fillings and shown to have superior aesthetics and durability.

Advantages of Dental Veneers

Costs and Medisave

Porcelain Veneers are not Medisave claimable.

Similar to crowns, the materials used for porcelain veneers are costlier than a normal filling material. However, what you get is a thin shell of porcelain which perfectly adapts to your tooth and enjoys longevity, durability and aesthetic excellence.
