I’ve recently been told that I may need a root canal, but I’m not sure what the recovery process really feels like. I’m wondering how long it takes for the pain and tenderness to settle and when I can get back to eating normally and doing my regular activities. I just want to understand what to expect after the treatment so I can prepare myself better.

Recovery after a root canal is usually quite quick, with most patients feeling significantly better within 24–48 hours and fully recovered within a few days. You may experience mild soreness or pressure around the treated tooth, especially when chewing, but this typically improves with over-the-counter pain relief and proper aftercare. At Ashford Dental Centre, the dentists use advanced techniques and gentle anaesthesia to minimise discomfort both during and after the procedure, which helps speed up recovery. They also provide personalised post-treatment guidance, ensuring your tooth heals smoothly and your bite feels normal again. Many patients return to work or school the very next day and with Ashford’s careful follow-up support, you can resume normal eating gradually as the tenderness subsides. If any unusual pain or swelling occurs, their team is always available across their Thomson, Bedok, Serangoon and Jalan Kayu clinics for quick reassurance and review.
