I’ve been noticing some bleeding when I brush my teeth and my gums sometimes feel swollen. I’m worried that it might be the start of gum disease. How do dentists check for early signs of periodontal problems?

We often use a periodontal probe to measure the depth of the gum pockets around each tooth, which helps detect early gum disease. Regular dental X-rays may also be taken to check for any bone loss around the teeth, ensuring early intervention if needed.
