I’ve been experiencing swelling, throbbing pain and discomfort that feels like it’s getting worse by the hour and I’m worried it might be a dental abscess. I’m not sure how fast I need to seek treatment or whether it can wait, but the symptoms are becoming difficult to ignore. Should I see a dentist immediately or is it safe to monitor it for a day?

A dental abscess requires urgent dental attention, and you should see a dentist as soon as possible—ideally within the same day. Abscesses are infections that can spread quickly to surrounding tissues, the jaw or even the bloodstream if left untreated. Delaying treatment may lead to severe pain, swelling, fever or difficulty swallowing. At Ashford Dental Centre, emergency dental care is available to assess the infection, relieve pain, drain the abscess if needed and provide antibiotics or further treatment. Getting prompt care not only stops the infection from spreading but also protects your overall health and saves the affected tooth wherever possible.
