I’m worried about getting cavities in the future because I’ve had some tooth decay before. I want to know how dentists check if I’m at high risk for new cavities and what factors they consider. Can you explain how my risk is assessed?

At Ashford Dental Centre, dentists assess cavity risk by examining your teeth for early signs of decay, checking your oral hygiene habits and reviewing your diet and fluoride exposure. They may also take X-rays to detect hidden decay and evaluate your saliva flow, which affects your teeth’s natural protection. Based on this, they create a personalized prevention plan to reduce your risk of future cavities.
