I have a very sensitive gag reflex and I often feel uncomfortable or anxious during dental procedures. Even simple treatments make me worry that I might gag or feel breathless. Because of this, I sometimes delay dental visits. I’d like to know how dentists usually manage this problem.

Dentists are trained to handle sensitive gag reflexes using a calm, patient-focused approach. At Ashford Dental Center, dentists take time to understand your triggers and use techniques like proper positioning, slow treatment pacing and distraction methods to keep you relaxed. They may also use topical numbing gels, breathing techniques or short breaks during treatment to reduce discomfort. The goal is to make sure you feel safe, comfortable and confident throughout your dental visit.
