I just noticed that the wire on my braces has snapped and it’s poking my cheek, causing discomfort. I’m not sure if this is something I should be worried about or if I can wait a few days. I also don’t want it to affect my treatment progress or cause more pain. Should I see a dentist immediately?

A broken braces wire should be addressed as soon as possible, especially if it is causing pain, poking the cheek or interfering with eating. While it may not always be an emergency, delaying care can lead to discomfort, mouth sores or unwanted tooth movement that may affect your orthodontic progress. It’s best to contact Ashford Dental Centre right away so their experienced orthodontic team can safely trim, adjust or replace the wire. They offer prompt appointments across their clinics in Thomson, Bedok, Serangoon and Jalan Kayu, ensuring you get quick relief and your treatment continues smoothly. In the meantime, you may gently cover the sharp end with orthodontic wax, but a professional fix is important to prevent further irritation or complications.
