I’ve been feeling some mild discomfort near the back of my jaw and I’m not sure if my wisdom teeth are coming in properly. I’m worried about possible impaction or misalignment and I want to know how often I should get them checked to prevent any serious issues. I’ve heard wisdom teeth can cause problems even if they aren’t painful.
At Ashford Dental Centre, we do recommend that your wisdom teeth are checked and monitored even if there is no pain. Wisdom teeth should usually be checked during your regular dental visits, about once every 6 to 12 months, especially if they haven’t fully erupted, Wisdom teeth can be impacted, buried or partially erupted. All these presentations can cause the development of infections, cysts and iatrogenic damage. Initially during development, this will not be painful. By the time you feel pain, most of the damage has been done and you will likely equire removal of the wisdom tooth or worse, the tooth adjacent to it as well. That is why it is recommended that your wisdom teeth are monitored even if there is no pain.
